The Kagoshima-maru travels on the vast seas expanding from Japanese coastal waters to the Equatorial regions of the Western Pacific Ocean for a couple of days to 50 days providing education, practical training including training in navigation and seamanship for undergraduate and graduate students and also engage research projects. The Kagoshima-maru also provides opportunities of at sea training for other universities and graduate schools that do not posses their own training vessels through the Shared-use Program of Educational Facilities.
