Diploma Policy

We develop human resources in the field of fisheries with high ability about the following items

(0) to have acquired culture and basic knowledge integrally necessary for fisheries personnel capable in the fields of resources, environment and food both in regional and international aspects integrally,
(1) to have acquired a practical and advanced knowledge and techniques in each specialty field of fisheries sciences.
(2) to have acquired sufficient basic ability to be able to learn throughout the life as fisheries personnel.
(3) to have acquired ability in English necessary for fisheries personnel.
(4) to have ability in information processing necessary for business as fisheries personnel.
(5) to possess practical report-writing, presentation and problem-solving ability necessary for fisheries personnel.
(6) to have ability for practical correspondence at the necessary level for fisheries personnel.
(7) to have collaboration (teamwork) ability, ethical view and judgement and occupation senses appropriate for fisheries personnel.
(8) to have will and thinking power to work on the issues of local and global communities as fisheries personnel.

Curriculum Policy

(1) To offer subjects to study fundamental knowledge necessary to produce fisheries personnel capable in the fields of resources, environment and food both in regional and international aspects.
(2) To offer the sets of subjects in the following specialties to learn practical and integral knowledge and techniques necessary in specialty fields in fishery industry.
① Aquatic sciences (Marine environmental sciences and aquatic biological sciences)
② Fisheries resource sciences (Marine environmental sciences and aquatic biological sciences)
③ Food Life Sciences (Seafood sciences and advanced utilization of resources)
④ Fisheries economics (Fisheries policy and fisheries marketing)
⑤ Aquatic environment science (Conservation of aquatic environment)
(3) To offer a group of basic education subjects to understand the specialty education and to be able to learn throughout the life.
(4) To offer a group of subjects to enhance the communication skills in English,
(5) To offer a group of subjects to improve ability in information processing necessary for business as fisheries personnel,
(6) To offer a group of subjects to acquire practical report-writing, presentation and problem-solving ability necessary for fisheries personnel,
(7) To offer a group of subjects to acquire practical ability in the field and industry and communication with fishery workers in order to contribute to the society as a fisheries personnel smoothly,
(8) To offer a group of subjects to acquire collaboration (teamwork) ability, ethical view and judgement and occupation senses in order to contribute to the society as a fisheries personnel smoothly,
(9) To offer a group of subjects to enhance the will and thinking power to contribute to the global and local communities in fisheries,
(10) To offer a group of subjects to reinforce the capability in the following jobs in order to contribute to society through specialty fields in fisheries,
① Fisheries teacher
② Seafarer officer
③ Globalised human resource
④ Fisheries generalist
⑤ Other qualifications

Admission Policy

The enrolment examination is given in three fields namely; Aquatic Science, Fisheries Resource Sciences and Fisheries Food Sciences, where applicants can make first to third choices. Most students admitted to one of those three fields will proceed to the division of the same name, but students who desire can also be converted to the division of Fisheries Economics or Aquatic Environment Science. The expected candidates in each field and the academic ability necessary after admission are as follows;
Expected Candidates

(1) Persons who want to study basic sciences regarding characteristics of marine environment and aquatic organisms as well as mutual relationship between them and wish to work in the fields of school education, environment education, and organisations related to surveys and conservation of marine environment and organisms (Aquatic Sciences)
(2) Persons who want to study the theories/techniques regarding capture and management of fisheries resources and aquaculture and wish to work in the field of fishing technique industries, cultivation industries and marine resource authority (Fisheries resource sciences).
(3) Persons who want to study utilisation of fisheries resources as food and advanced utilization as functional chemical products and wish to work in the food and chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry and relevant fields (Fisheries food sciences),
(4) Persons who want to study the knowledge and techniques regarding the fisheries policy, and marketing and economics of fishery products and wish to work in the field of fisheries marketing and food industries, and fishery-related public sector, financial institutions and organisations (Fisheries economics sciences)
(5) Persons who want to study regarding red-tide, organic contamination, harmful chemical contamination (human-origin negative impacts), and conservation and restoration of environment and wish to work in environmental assessment and relevant fields, and public organisation (Aquatic environment science)
(6) Persons who want to enhance job-ability required to work as a fisheries teacher, seafarer, fisheries generalist and globalised personnel (in addition to the previous five fields, we established new programs to reinforce the job-capabilities.)

Expected Academic Ability

(1) Basic ability in high school subjects of Japanese (reading comprehension and writing expression), English, and Mathematics (Mathematics I and Mathematics II) is needed.
(2) Academic ability relevant to each educational field (biology, chemistry, Physics or Geology) is required to study specialty subjects. These subjects are available in Year-1; however, basic academic ability is needed to understand them.
