Aquatic Environment Science

Healthy fish and ocean heavily depend on the healthy environment! Let's make good aquatic environment come true with our studies!

Harmful microalgae, investigation in the field, and analytical equipments for the Laboratory of Microbiology (genus of Chattonella, RT-PCR, water sampling, flow cytometers)

Fish for toxicity evaluation, investigation in the field, and analytical equipments for the Laboratoy of Envrionmental Conservation (test fish Oryzias javanicus, investigation in the field, GC/MS, LC/MS/MS)

Focus on human resources development

We cultivate human resources with the knowledge of red tide, eutrophication, environmental pollutions by chemicals (artificial negative impacts), environmental conservation, and environmental remediation.

Educational characters

~For the study as red tide, environmental pollution, and remediation

1. Totally learning about causes, issues, effects, and present condition of negative impact such as red tide and environmental pollution.
2. Technical acquisition for toxicity evaluation.
3. Learning about environmental remediation and that application.
4. Learning about basic techniques as environmental investigations and analysis of nutrients.
5. Technical acquisition for microbiological culture.

Studying

● Laboratory of Microbiology conducts research and education on conservation of aquatic environments from the microbiolobical point of view
1. To clarify mechanisms of harmful microalgal blooming, which causes severe damage to fishery industry.
2. To establish methods for controlling the blooms, forecasting bloom formation, and removing their causative microorganisms.
3. To establish techniques of bioremediation, including biodegradation and bio-treatment of environmental pollutants, industrial waste, and other negative impact on the aquatic environments.
● Laboratory of Environmental Science conducts the studies and educations on the distributions and transitions of environmental pollutants, the effects of chemicals to aquatic organisms, and environmental remediation.
1. To clarify the effects to aquatic organisms, and the distributions and transitions of oil components at oil spill.
2. To clarify the mechanism of intake, elimination, bioaccumulation, and metabolism for chemicals in fish.
3. To develop the toxicity evaluation method sediment.
4. To develop the evaluation with metabolomics.
